// FAQFrequently asked questions
The big questions usually come down to hosting, seats, and whether the open-source route stays viable as your team grows.
What is a credit, exactly?
A credit is the single billing unit for everything Memi does — LLM tokens, screenshots, video captures, memory ops, Composio actions, and coding-agent spawns. Typical @memi task: 150–800 credits. The credit cost grid above is published and versioned; we update you before rates change.
Is there a free plan?
No free plan — Memi runs real LLM and compute workloads, so free usage is hard to sustain responsibly. Every new org gets a 14-day trial with 10,000 credits to evaluate. Card required at checkout; we don't auto-bill until the trial ends, and you can cancel in one click.
What happens if I run out of credits?
Memi pauses new tasks and sends a Slack nudge with a top-up link. Your memory stays safe and read-only — nothing is deleted. Top up $10 for 10,000 credits instantly, or upgrade your monthly plan. You can also opt in to pay-as-you-go overage at $0.003 per credit.
Do credits roll over?
Pro credits reset at the start of each billing period. Enterprise plans can negotiate rollover. Usage-based pricing should reward right-sizing, not punish bursty weeks — so if you consistently underuse, downgrade; if you consistently overrun, upgrade.
Can I bring my own LLM keys?
Yes — on Enterprise. BYO OpenAI / Anthropic keys gives you a ~30% credit discount (we pass the savings through). Infrastructure, memory, connectors, captures, and agent orchestration still bill in credits.
How does Memi compare to Cursor or Devin?
Cursor/Copilot are per-dev IDE plugins ($20–40/user). Memi is an ambient team agent — you @memi in Slack or reference it in Linear tickets and it ships PRs autonomously. Closest peer is Devin; we're priced lower and usage-based so you only pay for what teams actually run.
Can I switch plans mid-period?
Yes — switch tiers on the dashboard any time. Stripe prorates the difference. Downgrades keep your credits through the end of the period; upgrades grant the new allowance immediately.
Do you offer discounts for startups?
Yes — if your company has fewer than 10 employees and less than $1M in revenue, contact us for startup pricing.
